“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet & disease in the cause & prevention of disease”
– Thomas Edison
Chiropractic is a natural, holistic and hands-on approach to healthcare centred around the function of the Spine and Nervous System.
The Spine is a series of bones called Vertebrae. Between each Vertebra and the next are Intevertebral Discs creating the spinal joints. The spine runs from the Cranium (skull) to the Coccyx (tailbone) and encases the spinal cord (an extension of the brain). The Spine forms the supporting structure for the rest of the body.
The Nervous System is an organ system made up of the Brain, Spinal Cord and Nerves. The Brain is the control centre and the Nerves transmit messages along the spinal cord to every cell, tissue and organ of the body and back again. The Nervous System coordinates and regulates every function of the body, including the body’s ability to self-heal. Any interference to the nervous system may result in reduced function of the target organ, muscle or gland.
A Subluxation is a restriction in a spinal joint due to physical, chemical or emotional stressors on the body. It may interfere with the function of the Nervous System and the communication between the Brain and body through the Spine. This interference can alter the function of the related organ, tissue or gland. Chiropractic is focused on removing Subluxations from the Spine.
An Adjustment is the correction of a subluxation through the use of the chiropractors hands or instrument. There are many different techniques a Chiropractor can use to adjust the Subluxations they locate in your spine. The intent is to restore full natural range of motion to restricted joints and to remove the interference to the nervous system, to allow the body to self heal and self regulate.
